actually serving in the Colony. Mr. Grant at present holds
the appointment of Assistant Master of the Police School
for which he receives $480 per annum, with exchange com-
-pensation at 3 shillings to the dollar. This at the
present rate of exchange amounts to about $720 per annum.
He would of course be required to resign this appointment.
Should he not desire to do this it would probably be
necessary to place a Master junior to him in Queen's
College above him in the Police School, continuing him as
Assistant Master under the present conditions of that
appointment.

If Mr. Grant accepts the charge
of the Police School I propose to fix the temporary allow-
-ance to be given to the Officer who will succeed him as
Assistant Master at $600 per annum of course without ex-
-change compensation. My reason for suggesting this amount
..
instead of the approximate equivalent of the salary now
#to
drawn by the Assistant Master is that the allowance now
drawn by the Normal Master at Queen's College is $600 per
annum and that the work done for this allowance (at present
drawn by Mr. Ralphs who is next to Mr. Dealy on the Staff
of Queen's College) is at least equal to the work of the
Assistant
